Artist Statement

Tracy Stirzaker’s art practice is informed by her lived experience - her thoughts, feelings and experiences as a woman, mother and daughter. Stirzaker explores embodied emotional experiences and socio-cultural factors through the repetition of words, motifs and symbols.
With honesty and directness, recent artworks have explored her and her family’s personal, emotional and physical challenges with themes around the body - independence, mental health, self worth and Asperger’s. Her experimental art practice explores the field of expanded painting and spans a range of disciplines including textiles, painting, installation, text and film.
Stirzaker’s current art practice arises from personal exploration into the self and positive affirmations, and stems from research into anxiety, depression and self-worth.
Tracy is drawn to everyday domestic materials including old garments, found objects, household packaging and old linen, she employs painting and textiles techniques including text, hand stitch, applique, and embroidery. Tracy investigates embodied emotional experiences and socio cultural factors, her artworks analyze and critique her life and how this reflects today’s Australian society.
